To breathe the quiet wisdom
between these moments:
Neither loss nor gain can be
when having never is.

Lao Tzu would agree completely - as do I - and in fact I 'have' very little materially which shocks most people. Nor do I have their stress either.

All very true. I have been practicing "demand-side management" myself, materially-speaking. I am finding, as I continue in this journey of self-discovery, that the sentiment holds true as much for relationships as it does for things...

Exactly so David.
I do not have the serious bonds to either my family, friends, children or lovers that others have for that too comes under the auspices of desire which in the end must be negated. Yet I cannot say that I do not have a world view in that I wish the best for all. My children deemed me cold - yet I am not - I simply do not wish to take on their problems or interfere in their affairs beyond what is wise for interference brings its own trials and tribulations or shall I say karma. A wise man says this and no more than that - he is compassionate but not mushy or gushy or in any way bonded to emotion. He analyzes the facts rationally and with insight and leaves it at that. Anything more and he steps again into the hands of desire/karma. So it is I live alone and always will for I have seen the path I must follow.
